Training & Experience
Ms. Fisher is a registered psychotherapist providing counselling & psychotherapy to adults in Owen Sound. She completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology from Laurentian University in 2009, and her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2012. She has held positions at Rehabilitation Management Inc., developing and coordinating goal-directed rehabilitation plans for individuals who experience cognitive, physical, behavioural, and/or psychological changes due to brain injury, complex orthopaedic injuries, spinal cord injuries, depression anxiety, and chronic pain. She completed a student practicum, and upon graduating was hired in a clinical position where she gained valuable experience at Deck Psychological Services, a private practice in Northern Ontario. She gained further instrumental experience at Brookside Psychologists, working amongst a team of psychologists and psychotherapists under the clinical supervision of Dr. Lesley Miller, Psychologist. Ms. Fisher is passionate about advocating for and supporting her clients.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Fisher’s experience includes working with men and women presenting with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, anger management, acquired brain injury, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trichotillomania, gender identity issues, and relationship issues (including separation and divorce). Experience also includes providing clients with assertiveness training, boundary setting, and self-esteem building. She has provided gender-identity related support and assessments for adults seeking OHIP-funded sex reassignment surgery/gender affirming surgery. She has extensive experience working with WSIB, auto-insurance companies and rehabilitation treatment teams. She focuses on providing clients at Inner Roots Psychotherapy with a multi-modal counselling approach tailored to each individual client with evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), systematic desensitization (including return to work plans and implementation), emotion-focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy (ITP), psycho-education, and relaxation techniques (such as mindfulness meditation).
